Chromatography Equipment

What is Chromatography & How Do Chromatography Systems Work?
Chromatography is a family of analytical techniques that can be used to separate specific components in a mixture, or even purify that mixture.
The separation is generally done by dissolving the mixture into a fluid, which is called the mobile phase, and then passing it through what’s called a stationary phase, a substance that stays fixed to the inside of a chromatography column and acts as a constraint, physically separating the mixture.
The most basic example of this would be watching water run through black ink on a piece of paper. As the water falls down the paper, the ink spreads with the water leaving streaks of the different colors used to make that ink black behind. This is known as paper chromatography, and is a type of partition chromatography.
Although chromatography is most commonly used in analytical chemistry laboratories, it can be found in many other places as well. Food testing, drug discovery, and forensic science have all benefited from these techniques.
For example, in 2013, when Europeans were worried that their beef was coming from horses rather than cows, liquid chromatography was used to surpass the difficulties of testing processed meats in order to ensure the integrity of the beef patties.
Chromatography systems have come a long way since their inception and the number of varying techniques has risen substantially. Systems offer customization and specialization to keep up with the widening choice of techniques, and can be integrated with analyzers, such as mass spectrometers, to make workflows even more robust and effective.
Why Lease Chromatography Equipment with Excedr?
Depending on whether your focus is clinical microbiology, biochemistry, or biotechnology, the specifics of your chromatography instrument or system. It can also vary depending on what you are testing for and the medium in which your samples will be tested.

FPLC Systems
Fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) is a method of medium- or low-pressure liquid chromatography that is used to purify and occasionally analyze different mixtures of large biomolecules that include proteins, peptides, oligonucleotides, DNA, and RNA. It is also used to collect separated compounds of interest and identify protein profiles within single proteins. Biomolecules are highly sensitive and can’t withstand the type of high pressure, temperature, or solvents used in high-performance liquid chromatography, or HPLC.

Gas Chromatography (GC) Systems
A gas chromatograph, or GC system, is a specific type of device used in chromatography, allowing users to isolate and analyze compounds. This can be performed on any compound that can be successfully vaporized. By using GC and GC columns, you can get an analysis without causing decomposition of a sample.

Ion Exchange Chromatography (IEX) Systems
Ions are charged atoms or molecules. The charge of the molecule is determined by how many negatively charged electrons or positively charged protons they have. In ions, the number of protons or electrons is uneven, resulting in a net positive or negative charge. Ion exchange chromatography (IEX) allows for the separation of ions and polar molecules using ion exchange in a material.

Liquid Chromatography (LC) Systems
Liquid chromatography, a type of column chromatography, is essential in many laboratories for the separation, identification, purification, and quantification of various compounds in different matrices. One of the most commonly used types of LC is high performance liquid chromatography, or HPLC. HPLC systems use extremely high pressures and specific HPLC columns to separate analytes in solvent.

Operating Lease Benefits
Operating leases make it easier to keep pace with technological advances in your field. The monthly lease payments can often be lower than monthly financing payments, and may be 100% tax deductible as well, yielding additional cash-savings. Furthermore, when you lease, you avoid the hefty upfront payments required when buying equipment with cash or a loan.
Sale-Leaseback Options
If you recently bought equipment, Excedr can offer you cash for your device and convert your purchase into a long-term rental. This is called a sale-leaseback. If you’ve paid for equipment within the last ninety days, we can help you recoup your investment and allow you to make low monthly payments. This also frees up money in your budget rather than tying it down to a fixed asset.
