Outfitting Your Lab Space Through Labconco

A Brief History of Labconco

It all started in a garage in Kansas. In 1925, Ralph Callaway, a salesman, and Philip Goldfisch, a garage owner, began their partnership and started a laboratory construction company together. Today, that company is known as Labconco Corporation.

Labconco is a mid-sized, privately-held laboratory equipment company on a mission to build a safer world through science. In 1957, Labconco outgrew its garage and moved to its official headquarters in South Kansas City.

In 1989, Labconco acquired Buchler Instruments. The addition brought enough expertise to introduce evaporators and centrifugal concentrators to Labconco’s portfolio. Over the years, Labconco continued to develop strong relationships with laboratory supply dealers and expanded globally. It now serves over 130 different countries with Jeff Stanton serving as president.

A Shield of Protection: Labconco Today

Today, the company specializes in manufacturing safety equipment like laboratory fume hoods, ventilation stations, and biological safety cabinets. They cater to the needs of scientists, lab operators, safety officers, architects, certifiers, academics, and various industries, including life science, pharmaceutical, and clinical.

This ISO 9001-certified company stands by its value to meet customers’ needs and build a safer ecosystem for laboratory research. With more than 90 years of experience in product design and supply, Labconco is committed to delivering safe, green, ergonomic, and durable lab equipment.

Labconco is also known for carrying out various green initiatives. Recently, they planted 10,000 trees for the Protector Echo Filtered Fume Hoods Program. In addition, beginning in August 2021, every Labconco product comes with an InfoTag printed on it. The InfoTag is a QR code facility that provides information specific to the product, including its product listing, catalog number, serial number, application support, and more.

In this article, we will cover Labconco’s product portfolio, the available accessories, and their applications.

Excedr’s lease program provides a creative financial solution for laboratories working on a budget. Lease the cutting-edge lab equipment you need, save capital for other parts of your business, and achieve R&D milestones quicker.

All of Labconco’s products are customized to match the customers’ requirements. For every application need, there is a perfectly tailored solution that prioritizes safety, high performance, and energy-saving solutions. Labconco’s product line includes, but is not limited to:

Fume Hoods

Labconco manufactures high-performance fume hoods and enclosures that are versatile and tailorable according to the application. These are specialized ventilation equipment manufactured with special consideration for energy efficiency and space conservation. The range includes:

  • Chemical fume hoods for general chemistry applications.
  • Educational hoods and enclosures for classroom and laboratory demonstrations.
  • Filtered fume hoods (ductless hoods with filters that contain acids, bases, and solvents).
  • Floor mounted fume hoods to place large items into the hood at floor level.
  • Special application fume hoods (PVC and stainless steel hoods).
  • Light-duty fume hoods for minimal use.

Remote Blowers and Exhausters

Labconco’s Remote Blowers and Exhausts offer superior quality and high performance specifically for chemical environments. They can manage an airflow as low as 250 CFM and as high as 3500 CFM. Each exhaust comes with a reliable electronically commutated motor (ECM), making it energy efficient. The portfolio includes traditional belt-driven blowers, Intelli-Sense Fiberglass blowers, Intelli-Sense PVC blowers, and more.

Ductless Enclosures

To protect users from exposure to hazardous fumes and vapors, Labconco provides ductless fume hoods and enclosures. These do not require ducts and instead use carbon filters that absorb acid gasses, solvents, ammonia, radioisotopes, and other hazardous vapors. Ductless enclosures are of two types: one with carbon filters and the other with a mix of carbon and HEPA filters. Some examples include Labconco’s Paramount Ductless Enclosures, FilterMate Portable Exhausts, and the Protector Work Station.

Biological Safety Cabinets and Enclosures

Labconco also provides state-of-the-art biosafety cabinets for all biosafety level environments. These cabinets use>99.99% efficient HEPA filtration systems and are categorized into Class I, Class II, and Class III.

Glove Boxes and Gas Purifiers

Labconco’s Glove Boxes are designed to provide an inert environment and controlled atmosphere when working with contamination-prone and hazardous material. Its HEPA/ULPA-filtered glove boxes are ventilated and protect users from exposure to dangerous materials. They allow for handling atmosphere-sensitive materials through their seamless and washable polyethylene shells.

Glassware Washers

Labconco’s glassware washers include their branded Labconco FlaskScrubber and SteamScrubber lab washers. The FlaskScrubber washers use direct injection to perform a deep-clean of narrow-neck glassware (such as an Erlenmeyer flask).

Conversely, the StreamScrubber glassware washer is used for washing general labware such as test tubes, Petri dishes, beakers, and utensils. Both models are undercounter and freestanding.

Other Labconco products include freeze dryers, clean benches, PCR enclosures, gas purifiers, non-ventilated enclosures, and more.
